Schafer: Steinway sale may portend lessons for sale of Star Tribune

The sale of Steinway is similar to the sale of the Star Tribune? How so? Steinway manufactures a high quality specialized product, respected around the world,that can't be easily replicated by its competitors. Can the Star-Tribune make such a claim? Wouldn't the analogy between the Star Tribune and Steinway be more valid if every major city in the United States had a piano manufacturer similar to Steinway, who had reduced their costs by reducing the quality of their product, over the past 15 years, and was, nonetheless,in the process of going broke?
