one of the biggest thing wrong with parent/children relationships today is that parents no longer work with school or public safety officials to rein in bad behavior in their children. My mother would have made me step forward if I'd have been one of these perps. Too few parents want to make their children face the consequences of their actions. It has gone on long enough that you see poor behavior in many young adults now. I'm not talking beatings and other corporal punishment here, just a willingness by parents to thwart little Johnny's path to indifference to doing the right thing.

I forgot to add, my father never called me his buddy. He called me son and still does. Sure he played ball with me and took me fishing, camping etc. but he established our relationship as father/son, not buddies. I have friends who have kids and they call their son "buddy" and play video games with them. But I see a lack of respect in the kids for their "buddy" and the kids talk to dad like he is one of the boys, not an authority figure deserving of respect. I think a dad should be a larger than life person who leads his son down the right path in life replete with joy and sadness, learning and discipline. Obviously these parents could use a lesson from my dad.

Holloway is clearly a class act. He gave the partiers a chance to own up to their behavior. He gave the parents of the young people a chance to have a teachable moment about integrity. Now he's taking the step that most of us would have taken as a first step. And still he holds out hope for the young man that appears to have organized this event. Wow. Pretty impressive. Hope that we all learn something!
