WASHINGTON — Unanimous but far from united, the Senate advanced legislation to prevent a partial government shutdown on Wednesday, the 100-0 vote certain to mark merely a brief pause in a fierce partisan struggle over the future of President Barack Obama's signature health care law.

Wait a min.--Didn't the Republicans in Texas say the comments by a State Senator filibustering women's health changes to be off topic and shut her down (2nd attempt) but Green Eggs and Ham is somehow relevant?

The World Health Organization ranks healthcare in the USA 38th in the world, right between Costa Rica and Slovenia. Obamacare isn't perfect, but it's better than the Republican alternative, which is business as usual, a plan that got us this disgraceful ranking. The Republicans should offer a better alternative, fix Obamacare or just stop being the "Party of No" and get out of the way. Fighting for an embarrassing status quo is just making their party irrelevant.

McCain: "No brainer." An apt title for Cruz.

Take out all those excessive mandates and allow people to buy insurance tailored more towards their needs. Don't let people opt out with the option of a small yearly fine (and allow them to turn around and go to the emergency room for a cold). Allow zero exemptions for congress, big business and unions.....

Isn't the point of "Green Eggs and Ham" that the character ends up liking them after going on and on about how he doesn't want to try them? Hmmm....

"The mechanics of advancing the bill were overshadowed by Cruz's filibuster, which included a reading of Dr. Seuss' "Green Eggs and Ham" to his daughters back home in Texas...'When Americans tried it, they discovered they did not like green eggs and ham and they did not like Obamacare either,'"...First of all, this was NOT a filibuster, and second, you'd think Mr Princeton and Hahvahd Law would be smart enough to realize what Green Eggs and Ham is really about, namely, you don't know if you're going to like something unless you actually try it. Obamacare = green eggs and ham.

Tell us republicans, how is it going to help the middle class and the poor if they don't have the ACA ? is having healthcare costs double every 10 years a good thing?

Personally, I can manage quite well if the Gov't was shut down for an extended period of time. The entire Federal Gov't should be shut down including the Pentagon and all federal employees should not receive a paycheck. If that were done a month every year, then the deficit would soon disappear.

"Personally, I can manage quite well if the Gov't was shut down for an extended period of time."......somehow, I don't think so. If every public employee was sent home and the entire Feberal government was shut down, the US economy you depend on would crash. Typical, selfish, short-sighted teapublican.

This ranking is because America is obese.
