Gosh, if the Twins didn't have that darned Mauer contract they could go out and hire everyone on the American League All-Star team. And bring back Punto. Boo. Punto. Grumble.

Masahiro Tanaka (currently 21-0 with a 1.23 ERA in Japan) is a free agent this off-season and available to the Twins. He's a no-brainer as an ace for this team, at a relatively affordable price. If they really wanted him, they could end up signing him for probably $10-12M a year times five years or so. That's a complete bargain for a Yu Darvish-like ace. That's a start. But, other than that, I think the taxpayers of Hennepin County should sue both the Twins and cheapskate Terry Ryan for breach of contract; when this ballpark was built, it was built under the implied promise that this team would spend no less than $100M to "remain competitive." That's the reason it was built: to remain competitive, NOT so billionaires could add another $100M or so to their pockets per season. My guess is that in 2014, this organization might field a team with HALF that payroll. That is a downright breach of the agreement between team and taxpayers. I mean, we kept hearing the numbers, how it would allow them to field a team with a $100M payroll and beyond. And now look at this mess. Everyone's too expensive, in Terry Ryan's mind. So, this once proud franchise spends its time at the bottom of dumpsters, feasting on crumbs, embarrassing both itself and the region it represents.

Im guessing the Twins will be close to 95 million for 2014, yet they could double that payroll and not lose 1 penny, with a TV bump of 25 million per year and a 1 time All Star game bump of 30 million the Twins are in shape finacially to make a Giant splash in free agency, but as long as Ryan is there we know we wont

They could hand out free beer at Target Field and I wouldn't go watch this glorified double A team.

This years numbers don't total near 80 million....not sure how you arrive at that.

This team is going nowhere as long as Pohlads own it. Really wish they would sell. Fairly obvious they don't want to spend or own.
