Muffed punt ruling proves costly to Vikings

Coach Leslie Frazier and the officials all erred on a muffed punt. How important it was is there for the speculation.

As bad as Ponder played, Frazier was out-coached even worse. From the fake punt to the fake field goal to the wasting of timeouts to the play calling to challenging a call on a turnover, Leslie Frazier got his butt kicked on Sunday.

The only thing worse than Ponder today was the coaching. I like Ponder and Frazier, but they need to go.

I am still convinced it wasn't a muff followed by possession and a fumble. Being at the game, we never got an up close replay to see if Benjamin had control before the hit. You cant blame coaching on the fake field goal. Players got to know situation and account for all 11.

Memo to special teams coach Mike Priefer... what's amazing is the mistake of not being prepared for fake kicks TWICE in the same game. How about you spend less time complaining about the refs, and more time preparing your special teams, which have been pitiful on coverage this year.

Special teams are not very special. A big part of special teams play is the quality of your secondhand third stringers that make it up, and the coaching. Both are not a good omen for the future.

Instead of a red flag the right move was a timeout when he could give upstairs time to review the play. Plus he could have had a minute to politely ask the refs if the play was being reviewed and why he thought it should have been reviewed. Maybe even on of the refs would have time to rethink the decision.

No boys, what was far worse was something apparently only those of us who watched noticed. The play of the O line was again putrid. Ponder was under siege all day. When he is able to move in the pocket he advances the team either with his legs or his arm. He was running for his life. The D line was not much better. The secondary was awful. How does Harrison Smith not cover the receiver and where was the help on the play? The defense once again could not hold the lead. Apparently only those of us who watched saw a horrible coaching display and a bad team look really bad. No question we need to make changes. I am all for letting Cassell play but lets make changes everywhere. Get Bishop in the starting lineup. Start all of the rookies. Let's change and get this team going. Sitting back will accomplish nothing.

All this just proves that Leslie Frazier does NOT belong on the sidelines of any NFL franchise. He is NOT head coach. He is clueless. A nice individual who should step down before it gets any worse. This team isn't going anywhere this year and should tank to receive a high draft pick in 2014. AP should request a trade so he can somehow get that ring somewhere else. What a mess. This all stems from horrible coaching. Keep laughing it up and yucking it up on the sidelines all the way to the cellar. Who's laughing now?

I can't believe not one Viking coach knows the rules any better than those awful refs. A time out should have been called to give more time to sort out the fact that he muffed the punt but then recovered the ball and had possession when he then fumbled while being tackled. That should have been ruled a fumble recovery and a TD. At the very least we could have saved the 15 yard penalty, and given the offense a chance to score a TD. That was turning point in the game thanks to both the inept refs and coaches.
