Reyer: How to combat sarcasm at work

Q: I recently took a new job; it has proved to be a very sarcastic work environment that makes me uncomfortable. How can I be heard without adopting that behavior, and at least get my team to change its culture?

What's with the assumption that sarcasm is inherently negative? Is it possible that the manager simply has a different sense of humor than her employees? Meyer infers that the manager sees her workplace as a negative environment now, but what will happen when this manager starts taking steps to limit her employees' ability to express themselves? She won't need to let them go; they'll quit on their own.
