Decision looms on keeping or firing Twins' manager Gardenhire

The same sign Ron Gardenhire hung in his office at the Metrodome, the one that reads “Improvise and Overcome,” hangs in his office at Target Field.

I am sure that coaches Jerry White and Rick S. were the reasons for the Twins terrible record last year and now this year. More of the blame should be on Terry Ryan who I think has done a bad job of supplying good players for Gardy to form a contending team. They will be bad for a long time until that is corrected! Decreasing attendance will follow.

Does Gardenhire extract from his players all that they're capable of? It wouldn't seem that he does. They only play up to their potential when they leave the Twins and are then offered competent managing and coaching. If Gardenhire doesn't motivate players to play their best, and his team loses 90 plus games three seasons in a row, then why in the world should he manage even one more game?

Firing Gardenhire would be a great injustice. Nobody can argue that he has let the team down in any way, shape or form. He is going into each game with a bunch of triple A players and he does what can be done with that material.

He absolutely needs to go. 12 years is long enough, and the Twins need a huge organizational overhaul to turn things around. There were good times early on, no doubt, but ultimately with Gardy the bad has come to outweigh the good. Most importantly, he is an unmitigated failure in the postseason. Yes he won six division titles, but we won only one series in 2002, meaning no AL pennants and no World Series titles. Worse, since the "I'll leave Joe Nathan in" debacle in 2004, the Twins have racked up a still-active 12-game playoff losing streak. That is beyond embarrassing. Even after the Yankees finished us off in a game that felt as predetermined as a pro wrestling match, he was immediately extended for a few more years, and each year has been an even worse failure than the last, all 90+ loss seasons. The dearth of talent is not all his fault, but even with his best teams he's often run a country club organization with little to no accountability. It's time for a manager from the outside who can infuse the Twins Way with new ways of thinking, and is unafraid to question things when necessary. My pick is Tampa Bay Rays bench coach Dave Martinez, but I could also go with Chip Hale or Matt Williams. Bottom line: Fire Gardy.

Gardy should have been fired after 2006, and I'm still standing my ground that he was the wrong hire in 2002.

This is a decision? At least 3 years late. Ba-Bye!

Chuck Dancer, let me count the ways that it's ok to blame Gardy, and to want him fired, but seriously facts and statistics will never convince most twins fans. So you let me know if you want the laundry list.
