Don’t bet against cereal, General Mills executives say

Cereal sales rose 4 percent, helping General Mills post growth in quarterly sales and profits, despite concerns about recent declines.

The real secret that the marketing department is not talking publicly about is that smaller packages at higher prices with the same sales volume really does increase profits.

Sorry GM, I'm saving for retirement and the kid's college funds. It's Malt O Meal cereals for this family. You should check out the great prices on the big boxes of M-O-M cereals at Menards! Can't beat it.

ANOTHER flavor of Cheerios is innovation? Shrinking the package is innovation? Really? Who are you kidding? We're also a Malt O Meal family. Their brands are just as good and nutritious as the big brands but at a much better price.

Well, if you are dead set on eating breakfast, may as well eat a cereal-based one. But the whole "breakfast is the most important meal of the day" schtick is nonsense and General Mills knows it.

With all the new information on nutrition it's likely that cereal is a dying trend. America is the biggest consumer of the product and we're starting to figure out that sugar and carbs lead to weight gain more than fat. Guess what most cereal products are heavy in????
