With the coach at the hospital and the No. 1 QB limping, Mitch Leidner calmly drove the Gophers back on course.

Did he have the same problems with on field seizures at any of his previous jobs, or is a new problem?

Look at how many comments this Gopher victory has generated. Nobody cares. I can't believe people would pay money to watch them struggle at home against a second rate nobody. I would much rather take in a high school game.

Very underwhelming victory; this sort of offense won't be very successful in the B1G. If Kill's seizures are no big deal, why does he need to be hospitalized after them? Barring a major medical breakthrough, Kill's condition isn't likely to improve as he ages, and I think it's questionable whether the 'U' is doing the right thing in allowing Kill to coach.

I too was not impressed. The QB on the other team was far better than our backup... although the young backup did well enough. I just kind of extrapolated the play yesterday into a big 10 game and if the gophers play like this, they will be very lucky to win one game this season.... sorry, I wish it was different and it may be when we play someone better than Western Illinois and Auto Center.... As a Minnesota fan, I am learning to be optimistic about the Wild, and hopeful that the Lynx can do well.... the vikes? I think we will know a lot more after today..... even Sid is not optimistic.....

The Gophers are Big Ten bottom feeders who have to play teams like Western Illinois in order to win. They can't beat anyone else. The Gophers are strictly minor league.

lordhawhaw1 got exactly right...Gophers should just start each year playing 4 or 5 community colleges here in some travel money...what a joke

Well lets see what else happened, Nebraska was slaughted at home by a good but not great UCLA team (after almost losing to the Cowboys in a previous game, WYOMING, not the other Cowboys). Mich came a yard and one play from losing at home to a team named after a kangaroo. ND struggled with a below ave Purdue team and Stanford, the #5 team in the nation had a very tough time with Army, a hard nosed but talent lacking squad who is probably only slightly better than the Leathernecks. Do me a favor, save the D 2 and high school crap till after next week, SJSU is no cupcake (better than Iowa, for sure and lead by a great QB and talented wide outs), so there will be the test. If the Gophers get hammered have at it.

You non-gopher fans need to find better things to do. Gophs won. Ski-u-mah!

I would bet good money that none of the negative Nellies on this thread were at the game. I was. It was electrifying to see a team pick itself up by the bootstraps with a medical issue with its coach, a sidelined QB when they were behind to a lesser school. They. Won. The. Game. Yes, they underestimated this opponent in the first half. They were lousy. But for Western Illinois, this was the Super Bowl. If the halves had been reversed and they were on fire the first half, then Jerry went down and they played lousy the second half, I'd be concerned. The reality is that there were hundreds of "Jerrysota" tshirts on the students. They love this guy and they're coming back to the games. The Gophers were in a gigantic hole when Kill came on board and they are learning how to win. The Twins, the Vikings, the Wild and the TWolves have a lot to learn from the guts and determination of this team and its coaching staff.
