Souhan: Musgrave and Ponder need to show us something

Bill Musgrave is a barrel of laughs. That barrel, apparently, is buried beneath a missile silo at an undisclosed location.

Doubt if Ponder will play as bad as last week. He might even manage to not screw up just enough so as to keep the game close. That's the problem - he gives the faithful some glimmer of hope that he will turn into a player. But the bad games will come back again. A QB should NEVER be a guy that can just 'not lose' a game.

I do not think that Musgrave and Ponder have a good game in them!!! I expect more of the same tomorrow with the Vikings 0-2 when all is said and done! It's too bad the Vikings do not have a quarterback with Adrian in his prime!!! Perhaps, we can draft one next year!

Up-and-coming quarterbacks will usually give you glimpses of brilliance that provide hope for the future if you hang in there -- Christian Ponder gives you nothing but glimpses of mediocrity that provide you with nothing but 7-9 seasons as long as he is at the helm.......:(

scale back the play-calling this week to what? Is it even possible to scale back? Why don't they try upping the play calling and use all personnel

At this point in time Ponder is a lost cause. I could be wrong, but in his third year, and he is unable to show a solid improvement in any singe area either accurate passing of deep balls, or not prone to throwing interceptions or fumbling, etc. Look around QBs who came in a league after Ponder-they are playing solid. Vikes should take a serious look at the third string QB, and give him a chance to show what he can do with his strong arm. Cos we know and have seen what Casell can do; he is not an upgrade of Ponder!

I agree with m092157. Ponder is a lost cause. He just doesn't have whatever it takes to play consistently well. I'd rather see what MBT has than Cassel. Ponder and Cassel are career backups. At least MBT has a stronger arm and isn't afraid to throw the ball downfield. I'd like to see ownership stop screwing around, fire Frazier and Musgrave...and get rid of Ponder and Cassel. The Wilfs promoting of Frazier, without even attempting to interview Jim Harbaugh, was about as stupid a move as was hiring Brad Childress over a steak dinner.

What happened when Russell Wilson was just across the border playing for Wisconsin in the same conference as the gophers. Why didn't Spielman check out his abilities before the 2012 draft? Was it an ego thing, by checking him out he would be conceding making a mistake in 2011 draft? Many experts were advocating Andy Dalton as a better pro prospect than Ponder in the 2011 draft. Why did Spielman pass on Cullen Kaepernack in 2011?

All these QB's are grown men and are getting paid well, so expectations should be high and excuses should low. If you and me didn't perform well at our job, we most likely would be replaced.

There is an intangible quality that truly good quarterbacks have. They possess a calmness under duress and competitive fire that can elevate an entire team. Everyone who is irritated enough to comment here can see Christian does not and will never have "it".

keepinupSep. 14, 13 8:30 PM

Ponder has had a good game or two, but has never been consistent. And it doesn't look like he's getting better. Unless you believe the Bear's Tillman. Why do I believe that Tillman would love to see the Vikes keep playing Ponder? Moving up into the first round to pick Ponder was a boneheaded move. Cassel isn't the answer. Put the 3rd string kid in there. You can't coach strong arm, and usually can't coach the tendency to panic out of a player. They are wasting their time with Ponder.
