The fact that this hunter doesn't lament the fact that the grouse population has hit the skids makes me wonder how he can consider himself a "sportsman." And since outdoor writers can't deal with criticism this post will undoubtedly be deleted, just as it was when I chided them for defining killing as "harvesting."

I take it DufferH isn't a hunter, Grouse have a natural cycle that goes up and down like clock work. Just because the gentleman in the article isn't concerned about it doesn't mean he isn't a "sportsman". This isn't an issue of over hunting, it's a matter of mother natures cycle for the bird(roughly a ten year cycle).

Seeing some birds already... Through the trees of course! The most "grousing" though seems to come from my spouse this time of year with both fishing and partridge hunting on the docket. This man has a passion and does it right, boots rather than ATV, simple 20ga double barrel as opposed to a 12ga auto. I like the dude's attitude!!

The beauty of grouse hunting is even when I go home empty handed it is still worth the trip.

Grouse taste better than pheasants. And it is more soothing to go for a walk in the woods than to plow through a field. Nothing againsyt pheasants or pheasant hunters...just my preference.
