Opener shows the Vikings have plenty of blame to share

Christian Ponder certainly struggled against the Lions, but his line’s play and coaching decisions didn’t help, either.

I am a die hard Viking fan living in Seattle and it kills me to listen to my buddies hoot and holler about the Seahawks. But they have a right to do it. Pete Carroll and teh Seattle organization makes Leslie Frazier, Chrissy Ponder and company look like a bunch of chumps. Pete Carroll took 2 seasons, 2 drafts and some free agency moves to turn Seattle intoa Super Bowl contending team and us long suffering Viking fans have to put up with Lezlie Frazier and Christian Ponder. All u need to do is see the look on Frasier's face every play and you see a look of confusion and a look that he has no idea what is going on. Pete Carroll is confident, intelligent and giving lessons on how to turn a team around.

The scary thing is..... Ponder is at his prime right now. He won't get any better then this. He's making the same mistakes as he did last year and making the same comments as he did last year. The only reason why we didn't see him as much in the preseason is because Frazier is hoping for job security and doesn't want us to see how much of a joke Ponder is. He's like T. Jackson, but with playing time.

The only way Ponder is successful is if all the other phases of the game are clicking. We need a quarterback who can make some plays and make up for others' shortcomings on a given day. Peterson is able at times to carry the team, Ponder can not.

"“We count on our offensive line to be a dominant factor for us, and we were not [against the Lions],” Frazier said...............maybe if Frazier wouldn't have treated his team (and especially Ponder) like they were the defending SB Champs that didn't need to play during the pre-season they would've been better prepared for the real season. Coaches like Harbaugh, P. Carroll, Shannahan etc. have no problem sitting the incumbent QB and going with a rookie when they can tell that the incumbent QB just isn't going to get it done. We are always told how "book smart" Ponder is (2 college degrees) but that isn't going to replace a lack of "street smarts".I am not at vikings practices but I can almost bet that the coaches and the homers like Sid Hartman and Paul Allen are swooned over by Ponder "in practice" when he's wearing a red jersey and not facing live bullets. I am not trying to funny but I believe Bethel-Thompson has the street smarts, has a cannon of an arm and could not do any worse than Ponder. Harbaugh benched a playoff QB for something called "Kaepernick" and Pete Caroll traded for Matt Flynn and switched to a rookie Russell Wilson before training camp was over. Come on Frazier, you can do it too......try someone else, anyone else and you might be surprised.

...and the excuses keep on coming. Not every QB gets a stellar o-line, but nobody else gets the league's best RB either. Ponder sucks, end of story.

Unfortunately for the Vikings, the NFL is a quarterback driven league. Ponder has shown that he just doesn't have what it takes to win when the chips are down. Everyone in America can see this....why not the Viking coaching staff? Adrian Peterson deserves better than this!

Seems pretty simple to me. I would be doubtful that our offense has much confidence in Ponder, just as the fans have no confidence in him. Time to start Cassel and end the TJack, oops, Ponder experiment. Sure, Cassel doesn't look that much better, but Ponder is definitely not the answer!

“Just the decision we made,” Frazier said of the third-down play call. “We could have done either-or. We chose to pass.” The move backfired, which pretty much summed up the day. Lets review: Do you use A)Best running back in football who happens to be the reigning MVP of the league or B) A less than average QB having a horrible day even by his pathetic standards? The obvious choice is B. Right everyone? The move backfired. Well, isn't that a surprise?

Frankly, the problem with the Vikings lies with the head coach, offensive and defensive coordinators. The game plan and play calling is an absolute embarrassment.
