Souhan: Coddling Ponder won't cut it any longer

There are so many qualities you’d like to see in Christian Ponder, so many things that seem to be missing from the desired profile of a quality NFL quarterback.

What a great piece. You hit the bullets on Ponder perfectly. You can read his indecisiveness in his eyes. He doesn't believe in himself and Im certain the rest of the team senses that. How much longer we will have to put up with him? Spielman and Coach - Ponder is a bust. Stop with the nonsense and save the season!!! Some guys just don't have it.

Yep, that's what you get when you panic as an organization and draft Ponder way too high when the correct pick was Andy Dalton. Major fail by all involved.

Perfectly expressed! Great job once again Jim and this is why you the best sportswriter in the country!

Great article. Right on!!!!! Ponder never was and never will be an NFL QB.

Please tell me they will stop the bleeding before the season is a lost cause! Ponder will never be an elite QB, NEVER!

Agree 100%. It is time the excuses stop. Ponder is fortunate to face 8-9 men in the box because we have Peterson. But one reason we see so much 8-9 men in the box is not just because of Peterson, but because teams don't believe Ponder can take advantage of single coverage.

Ponder did not play well at ANY point last season, at best he was mediocre. The early games were won by Percy and late games by Peterson. Over the last four games, opposing defenses dropped several ill-advised throws that were certain interceptions.

Great piece. When will this organization make Ponder accountable for his play. The turning point in this game was the interception he threw just before halftime when he was rolling to his left and threw a wounded duck. Detroit scores, momentum changes and the rest is history. This is a QB driven league and the Vikings do not have a QB. Cassel is not the answer either. This is going to be a long and painful season to watch this brand of football.

Jim- you are spot on in every aspect of the Ponder conundrum. This is Denny Green-T Jack coddling 2.0, and now here we are with Fraser-Ponder. The same fate awaits both of these guys unless Ponder wins or coach sits him down. If we had a top 10 QB we could put up 12 plus wins. As it is we have a bottom 10 QB which is good for10 plus loses. Silver lining? There are 15 more games. SKOL!

Respectfully, Mr. Souhan, did you see excellent offensive line play from the purple today? Peterson didn't win the MVP award by carrying 17 times for 15 yards. And where's the criticism for a horrendous defense that was only spared an early blowout by Detroit's own mistakes? Ponder did not play well but there is enough blame to go around for this loss.
