Excellent idea. Teardowns are the scourge of that community, and will be deeply regretted years later. Gorgeous 1920s cape cods, bungalows and colonials being ripped down for eyesore McMansions. The whole right-wing "I can do what I want with my property" mantra doesn't hold water when historic housing stock is being lost. There should be strict guidelines put in place. But if that can't be accomplished, this is a good approach to take.
