Family income not a factor as public school students eat for free in Boston, other cities

BOSTON — Some students toted lunchboxes to the first day of school in Boston this week, but district administrators are expecting that could become a more unusual sight as parents learn about a federal program that is now providing all public school students in the city with free breakfast and lunch.

While certainly do not wish anyone to go hungry, yet this is an example of yet another government program adding another tentacle of dependency for citizens to the government. Does anyone actually believe that as this generation grows, their dependency on government programs will decrease? Does anyone actually believe that down the road some else is developing similar program for something else the government will provide? If we are to remain a free society, consider that in a free society, government, at all levels, cannot and should not be all things to all people.
