Crews start demolishing vacant housing project where Joe Louis, Supremes lived before stardom

DETROIT — A backhoe crunched and gouged into a former low-rise row house in Detroit on Wednesday, marking the first official demolition work on a massive, vacant Detroit housing project once home to boxer Joe Louis and the Supremes before the musical trio became vital voices of "the Motown sound."
