On its 12th and final day — a cool, dry, glorious day — the Minnesota State Fair welcomed a record crowd for the second day in a row, the fair reported Tuesday.

It's great for the print and TV media to celebrate the breaking of attendance records. But we went on Sunday and it was a royal pain in the rear to get around. We've been to the Fair many times, so we are used to the crowds, but this was ridiculous. I will NEVER AGAIN go to the Fair on a weekend, it's just not worth it. If we can't go during the week, or it's too hot, we'll just skip it until next year. It's not that important to our lives.

The young man pictured Will Bollum is a great kid and if you think Marcus Sherels went through a lot last year you've missed what Will and his siblings have gone through.

We also went on Sunday and it was crushing. Hard to get anywhere. Thank God for the fine arts building!

400,000 people the last two days?? Holy bleep! My daughter went on Sunday, she said her friends' dad waited in line ONE HOUR for Sweet Martha's cookies. No way would I ever do that, I went on the 23rd and it was busy enough at 120k people. I'd rather be there in 97 degrees and humidity than try to maneuver through 236,000 people on Sunday!

If I did my math right, attendance at this year's fair was three percent lower than last year. Statistically, that's pretty insignificant, especially with a sample size that's so large.

I do not understand the media's obsession with state fair attendance numbers, or the expectation that we have to set a record every year.

Myself and a friend who was using a scooter, laughing at the cross-traffic fun at the street intersections, did just fine mid day Sunday, including travels between the Grandstand, Ag building, Fine Art, and the Luminarium. No we did not stand in line for cookies. :- ) Its more fun to BE in it then just watch crazyness on youtube. Go State Fair!
