If you look at the bunch of no-names the Twins are playing now with no one hitting above .240, next year will be similar to this. I used to respect T Ryan, but he is just a double-talking politician who is trying to reduce the budget and keep fans coming at a 30K clip. No shows at the ballpark is the only number he recognizes.

There's no question that was the motivation for the Morneau trade. I like the possibility of AJ coming back along with Herrman and Pinto. They need to clear up 3rd base as well for next year. Plouffe is a never was--NEVER WAS--and needs to gone as soon as this season is over. They could do worse than to see about bringing Valencia back. He's blocked in Baltimore by Manny, so he'll be available. I really like Michael Young and he would be an excellent addition at 3rd as well. Finally, I keep reading that Chase Headley may be available and he'd be a great add. Cleaning up the infield and adding pitching has to be the top priorities.

I would LOVE to have AJ back! Great article.

Well this great piece of sports writing is half duh? and half looney toons. AJ ain't stupid, he knows a loser when he sees one, he won't be back here. I hope Sano is a great one someday but he's got a long way to go. Did the author mention the owner in all of this gibberish ?

Bluedevil: Plouffe is a disappointment but no reason to get rid of him. He hits left handers very well. A bench bat that can play a bit of first and third has value. Not what you're looking for in a #1 draft pick but not someone to simply discard.

Gee, when was the last time Mauer hit 20 home runs? Same year I believe. Using your logic, he doesn't fit in either. If he wasn't from here, and had the legion of Strib writers conducting P/R for him, Mauer would have been destroyed by the media in any other market. Zero leadership, and the first 6'6", 235 lb player in baseball history known for walks and singles.

It sure is a lot to assume that AJ would want anything to do with the utter dysfunction that is MIN. He might have been "homesick" for a little while after the trade for Nathan but obviously his career took off after leaving town. Sounds familiar!

Oops! Parmelee? (Sp?) Can't hit big league pitching. Probably never will.

rick563Sep. 1, 1311:44 PM

Mauer should be moved to 1st. Sano is probably not ready yet, but let's see him in Sept. Plouffe and Parmelee are perfect "player to be named later" candidates for trades involving Willingham and Doumit. Don't rule out free agency - the Twins have plenty of payroll room. Starting pitching is priority number one. Given the lack of power or the inherent limitations of Target Field, speed should be priority number two.

A good idea, but I think re-signing Morneau is better. If we can't do that, then this should be the second option.
