Senator obama 2006: Mr. President, I rise today to talk about America’s debt problem. The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. ***** I wish to repeat his words: The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure.

Good post, Dogman! Seems the only behavior we've seen from the Republicans for five years is obstructing the recovery, causing the first credit down-grading, and efforts to suppress the vote. Notice how that it's only under Obama that the debt-ceiling hike has been used to bully?? It was never an issue for any other president. Well, the bullies will lose their power in 2014.

What a dysfunctional group.. all I can say is that the GOP (aka the Party of No) will be shooting themselves in the foot. The only thing they can do is vote to repeal Obamacare for 100+ times.. they've done nothing else the 4 years they've had the majority in the house! They can't even come up with an alternative plan! They need to be voted out of there :p

Since the last debt ceiling debate a few things are crystal clear to Americans 1) the $85 Billion sequester was not noticed! 2) The GOA has way too much "Las Vegas Party" money in its budget 3) The IRS has way too much "California training money" in its budget 4) Barrack Obama still has not signed a budget passed by Congress other than continuing spending resolutions with spending increases 5) The Federal government has $4-5 Billion in empty real estate sitting around the country 6) Foreign aid under Obama has increased from $19B to $56 Billion per year 7) Food Stamp Program has increased from $44B to $88B under Obama 8) The Annual Afgan War budget under Obama has increased from $14 Billion to $114 Billion 9) Omamaphone program is out of control! 10) Obamas vacation budget is out of control after the $100M trip to Africa!.............There is allot of fat that can be cut in order to get the credit line increased!

"Just proves the failed leadership that Americans keep voting into office, and the biggest failure is the present administration" -- how exactly can you conclude this administration is the biggest failure from the summary I posted? Clearly Reagan and Bush Sr did the worst when it comes to controlling the federal debt, with Dubya not far behind. Presidents Clinton and Obama perform the best.

DOGMAN - You are correct, all of the Presidents share some responsibility for this debt. Right now it's approximately $45,000 for every single American and yet POTUS said just last week it's not a problem. Obama has added more to the deficit in one term than Bush did in two terms. But our unwillingness to address the entitlements is going to keep us on this path. Our grand children's life is going to be quite different than ours.

"It's not clear to you" -- it's all relative... Reagan increased the federal debt 6 times more than Carter, Dubya increased it 2.5 times more than Clinton... and President Obama has increased it 1.5 times more than Dubya. Once you take into account economic conditions, revenue health, ongoing wars, etc that were left from the previous administration... it's obvious republicans have left the debt much worse than what it was when they took office
