My condolences to Mr. Samatar's family and the entire Somali community. Elected office and having a voice in civic matters is a difficult threshold for a fledgling new community to cross, and Mr. Samatar is the first to do it. His absence will be felt profoundly by those he served.

I had business dealing with Mr Samatar a few times over the past decade. He was a class act all the way. He will be missed by all who knew him.
