Instant gratification is winning the battle vs. patient development.

What's really sad about this article, is that it made me think. Other than for the year that Favre had one good season, we haven't had a franchise quarterback for 35 year since the days of Tarkington.

Analyze, criticize, critique, speculate, compare, reflect and interview the "specialists"! Bottom Line: It's a new game. "Play ball"!

Read what Bud says about Kramer, beyond his great ability and talent, he had great instinct to see the whole field. As Ponder showed nothing beyond average ability and not much instincts in College, what makes one think he will be a franchise NFL QB.

Andy Dalton drafted in the second round was almost rookie of the year, took the team to two playoffs, and threw for 28 TDs last year yet many say it's a make or break year. If it's make or break for Dalton what the heck is if for first round pick Ponder?

Pat is right. We are too quick to judge and expect human beings to be like products or machines that we purchase with our entertainment dollars. I also know this about people: they respond to encouragement and lots of Vikings fans will never encourage or give Ponder any space to grow because they have too much pride wrapped up in their 140 word expertise.

If Ponder turns out to be a good as Tommy Kramer all Viking fans will be happy and surprised. Their judgment is strictly on what they have seen so far. As Sid says the jury is still out on him.

What people are forgetting, is that the reason all these young guys are playing so soon. Is that the talent level in todays NFL is down so much, they have too play. Of course nobody will come out and say that. Used to be, players at all positions, sat and watched for a year or two. Then played. Now we have all these guys that can't tackle or cover. Or read a defense. It's not your dads NFL that's for sure.

"I watch him, I don't scout him" I like Bud Grant's comment on Ponder. It was one of those (if you can't say something nice, don't say anything.)

Ponder just does not have the physical or mental skill set to improve his game. This is what he is, he will not improve, and he may regress, he is not an NFL starter.
