Oh good grief. I have a feeling the individuals objecting may have political grievances with the law rather than any legitimate objections. I'd also point out that the Paul Bunyan story - which is not, of course, under any enforceable trademark - is common across all the lumbering areas of the United States, and Paul and Babe statues exist all the way to the redwoods of the west coast, where many of the Minnesota lumberjacks ended up after they scoured the upper Midwest clean of trees. So Bemidji does not, by any means, "own" Paul and Babe.

Oh, jeez, people. I thought Bemidji had a sense of humor. Why else would you put up a gigantic statue of Paul and Babe anyway?

Sometimes I think people are just sitting around waiting for an opportunity to be offended.

I've been to Bemidji several times. It ain't anything to be too proud of. And it's not like they own these characters either. They're part of folklore not owned by any one.

My Goodness, Bemidji leaders, get a life. This is a giant plug for Bemidji and its icons. Instead of turning water into lemons, turn it into lemonade by showing you have a sense of humor by exploiting the publicity and not being so pompous that you lose the opportunity. I know a lot of good people in Bemidji and they are generally genuine and understand a good bit of humor for a good cause.

Sorry Bemidji, you do not own these 'cultural icons'. They can be appropriated by anyone. Are you mad at Target for the 'Target Field races' starting Babe? Why do I think that you're just mad that Babe and Paul are being used to advertise the Affordable Care Act?

The ads were a little dorky, but that's OK. So is Minnesota, I guess. Could be worse. At least we're not Iowa.

I didn't know getting in a boat accident was humorous. Wonder if the families that lost love ones this year are laughing.
