This is where we run into the gray areas. Miguel Tejada previously had an exemption from MLB to take Adderall for his ADHD, but it expired, he hadn't gotten a renewal, but he continued to take the meds knowing that he might get into trouble (according to his statement). His claim is that it is for a medical issue (a 'disease' as he put it) and that it only brings him to a point where he 'should be' rather than trying to gain an advantage. Lifetime ban (as many have suggested for repeat offenders), free pass (because it's a common medication and he's using it for his ADHD), or something in between?? Should he be allowed to take a medication to get to a "normal" state or should he have to play "naturally" (since difficulty concentrating is his natural state)?? Gray areas and tough questions.

There are no gray areas. The proportion of MLB players seeking exemptions from MLB for drugs such as Adderall to treat ADD is way out of proportion to the percentages of the general population who suffer from ADD. There is a performance effect from this Adderall which you can learn more about with a Google search. The line in the story is "However, Tejada no longer had the proper authorization..." This is a man who pleaded guilty to perjury in front of Congress and you are looking for even more gray areas in a guy who always appeared in Minnesota in a gray uniform. Yeah, let's give him another bailout like all the bailout of the new century. I got to call my money manager. And then my agent. And then my lawyer. Geesh, professional sports in the new millennium.

Taking Adderall is not like taking a steroid to get stronger to hit the ball farther or to speed healing from excessive workouts to hit the ball farther or speed healing from injuries. If your CPA or Attorney gives an All Star performance and has to take Adderall to do it ... does that mean her or his work shouldn't count?

If you don't cheat, u don't win??????

The problem with a drug like Adderall is that it is genuinely needed by some, but would benefit most players. The fact that any adult with half a brain can fake ADHD, because the diagnosis is based on self-reported symptoms, makes it a tricky question. Is it different if a player was first diagnosed when he was ten or when he was twenty-nine? Should we allow for drugs/procedures to get back to 'normal' or is it a black-and-white ban? MLB has an inconsistent system because they decide that some guys can take it and some cannot, and ADHD diagnoses are very subjective and inconsistent from doctor to doctor. That's what I mean by "gray area." Yes, Miguel Tejada should be suspended for taking a banned medication/drug without an exemption, which even he has acknowledged, but the system is messed up.
