AOL to lay off up to half of 1,000-person workforce at Patch local news sites

NEW YORK — AOL Inc. is laying off up to half the workforce at its Patch local news sites and shuttering or consolidating roughly 150 of the 900 sites while looking for partners for others.

All our local Minneapolis Patch does is repeat news articles from the Strib, and other local newspapers and provide links to those articles. They have no reporters or photographers and don't cover any events themselves. There really is no purpose to Patch. It seems to be an poorly thought out business plan.

CEO's "business judgment" borders on fiduciary negligence. He should be dismissed with no more than a single month's salary.

The Fridley Patch site does a good job reporting on local news and supporting the area schools. They are also more approachable and communicative than the local shopper news has been. It will be a shame if that site doesn't survive.

The big problem is when you report news with a Liberal bias and just repeat their lies. However, if you do investigative reporting and expose the liars people will flock to you. Fox News? Why do you suppose people DO listen to them? Because they find the facts behind the fiction.
