Morneau's future remains uncertain after clearing waivers

Ron Gardenhire hates that Justin Morneau is surrounded by uncertainty, that he knows he could be a former Twin any day. But now it appears Morneau must live in stay-or-trade purgatory for as long as two more weeks.

"There is one other stumbling block to a trade: Morneau’s contract includes a clause that allows him to block a deal to six teams" If one of the teams is the White Sox I like him even more.

If Ryan were a strategic thinker, he would approach Morneau right now when he is facing so much uncertainty and sign him to an affordable 3 or 4 year deal with a concussion clause that says if he cannot play due to concussion symptoms returning that he is not paid anything. The team needs to build around something and they currently have two guys who can hit and one guy who can hit in the clutch and that is Justin. He would jump at an 3 year deal for $8m per year. Ryan is the cheapest guy in baseball but letting one of your two consistent offensive players go in his prime to save $8m per year is just dumb. This team has more holes than a golf course and you want to open another one to save $8m. Do they ever want to be competitive again? You need veterans to build around when you have all these young guys coming up.

If nobody else wants him, why should we? He is not worth more than a one million a year deal with insentives. Eight million? No way.

Im greatful that Justin likes baseball and he likes it here. Im sure if the Twins offered him a contract with less money he would still stay with this club. He can still play and he can and will contribute his talent to this team. Because of his concussion problems many teams will not even look at him.So I say approach him with a new contract and one he can live with and still play for a few more years.

The team needs a first baseman who can hit. .262 is Nick Punto territory.

I like Morneau, but I'm so sick of these sports stories talking about "how hard it is" for these athletes to deal with the uncertainty of knowing where they'll play and how many million they make. Yes, it's very hard on them.

If they offer him less money and he stays how much do you think he will play? Concussion sympthoms are on the way.

Make a reasonable offer, protected with a concussion clause. He'll be needed more than ever to guide, steer and maybe even control/enforce the youngsters soon to join the team.

Morneau is not going to sign a deal this close to Free Agency. The Twins already offered 7 million a year (too high in my opinion). He made 14 million this year. Never underestimate the ego of professional athletes (even humble ones). I think he signs a one or two year deal for 4-5 million a year later this winter. He definitely should have taken the Twins offer last off season.
