The only people that are approving of the scoreboard placement are the very small minority that wanted it moved. They happen to live on the street behind the north end of the field. Due to a permit technicality, the installation was halted. This was because of the tree removal, which was the initial complaint from the north end of the field neighbors. The scoreboard has always been on the north end and was designed to go there. The school changed its plans, most likely considering the north end neighbor's complaints. No one else around the field had any input. Now the view of the field seen by thousands driving, biking, and walking by on 50th street will be forever denied seeing the front of the scoreboard and instead will have the view partially blocked. the result is an erosion of a community asset, just to cater to a few who moved into those homes when the old scoreboard was in its rightful place. Washburn High is experiencing many issues at present and one of the resulting scars will be a shortsighted change of an attractive, exciting venue into one that is now more isolated. So, the few on not very bust 49th St that is below grade of the field anyway, got their way, at the behest of the many.
