A year from now, far north Minneapolis will have something other parts of the city have long boasted of: namely, a beach.

where is this money coming from? property tax relief should be a priority before frivolous spending on parks.

What a great idea! A big reason the South/Southwest sides of town are affluent and popular are largely due to the lakes. I know if given the choice that I prefer to be as close as I possibly can to them. Hopefully this idea bring value to the adjacent neighborhoods, both in terms of wealth and quality of living.

I suppose the negative commenters would have been opposed to the chain of lakes, the concept of Libraries and even schools. Apparently even when tax money is spent to benefit the very people paying the taxes, some still cant deal with it.

Glad to see residents of north Minneapolis have their own beach. They have been forced to drive to Lake Calhoun but now they have their own beach, good to see and I am happy for them!

@trapheler and @gopherfolly, stop by your city ward representative and let him or her know that you want the parks board to save you some money by closing down the park on your block and the beaches at your local lakes. After all, that's the physcally responsible thing for you to do, isn't it? So, Go!
