No mention of The Loop Bar in the article? I think that place took a bit of a risk in mid-2000's and actually pulled a lot of 1st avenue goers blocks away from their regular nightlife over to the Loop area, which started it's now current trend.

I wonder why the City of Minneapolis doesn't require some of the owners of those rundown buildings to do anything with them...at least keep them clean! Deja Vu, the corner building in 2nd Ave and Washington Ave owned by the Monte Carlo people and Deja Vu are simply eye sores...now the old IPR Institute building is going downhill. I would think that as business owners they would care a bit more, maybe they just liked the area like it was before as they have been around for a while.

Sitting in the North Loop right now. This place is going to be HOT in a few years. It's interesting to see all of the new development. It's an investor's paradise. The place is hopping on weekends. The weekdays are busy with a lot of traffic and people working in the old warehouses. We just got a new bookstore on 3rd Avenue and there are many art galleries.

Having lived in the neighborhood since 2003, I can tell you that without a doubt the most substantial change in nightlife in the North Loop happened when The Loop opened in 2006. The Loop is not only a cool, bustling bar on the weekends, but also sports a busy happy hour for the neighborhood during the week. They planted the flag in this area, and other establishments followed. Please update this article to properly reflect what really happened here in the North Loop.

ginny6, what do you find fake and pretentious? What bugs you enough to comment? (Re Loop bar, its previous life as Mel's Beauty Bar, had a fun theme and I still miss their little pizzas and made from scratch strawberry shortcake.) I always thought this part of town was so handsome and full of history. It's fun to see a variety of people enjoying themselves and each other here.
