Erin Henderson eyes breakthrough as Vikings’ man in the middle

Erin Henderson’s hunger is evident in his eyes. Mike Singletary senses it. And who better to translate a look than a legend whose own career was hallmarked by a bug-eyed stare that carried him around the field with so much fury.

Every single year we hear the same ol' story about how Henderson has a chance to "breakthrough" but it never happens. This year will be no different, he is not even close to even being a Pro Bowl caliber player.

Why was Greenway not a candidate for MLB? Or was he? Don't remember ever hearing it as a possibility.

The good news for Erin is that the MLB bar is not set real high in recent Vikings history. It's not like he's following Urlacher. As long as he's just okay and doesn't miss tackles he'll mostly stay out of fan criticism crosshairs.

I think the fan criticism crosshairs are firmly planted on Ponder so that shouldn't be a problem.

"He might never blow you away with his speed or talent or his ability as a big hitter." Just what we want in a starting MLB.

So Singletary's advice to Henderson is to "just be Erin". Perhaps the QB coach should tell Ponder to "just be Aaron Rodgers". It just might work.

There can be no ignoring, an authoritative defense is imperative to winning championships. The MLB has to be the most aggressive and leading dominate presence on the defensive side of the ball. The preseason will reveal provided Desmond Bishop can return to full-stride, whether that will be he or Erin Henderson. "SKOL VIKES"

This guy is no more a middle LB as the man in the moon. LMAO. BUT..it really doesn't matter as the team will be lucky to win five games.

I agree with the naysayers. Erin Henderson is not the Vikes' MLB of the future or even of today! Bishop, if he can stay healthy, should be the starter from game 1!!!

Even with a breakout year at 27 the Vikings need to look for a high caliber MLB talent, preferably in the draft, it has been a long time since we had a stud in the middle and now you need one that moves laterally and can drop back if needed. Injuries aside this a position that the Vikes must upgrade soon.
