ATF's B. Todd Jones must confront gun violence

The gun lobby and its supporters, who have continuously demanded more enforcement against illegal firearms trafficking rather than new restrictions, have given an inch toward backing up their demands by permitting the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to have a permanent director for the first time in seven years.

Where is the chorus which has been chanting, "We don't need new laws, we just need to have present laws enforced" now that the ATF has a permanent director?

I'm sure the new director has read the second amendment and understands there is much work to do repealing illigitimate and unconstitutional laws regarding keeping and bearing arms in the US. He'll just need to mix that in with his responsibilities for A & T. That's why he was appointed, to protect and defend the constitution insofar as the scope of his agency responsibility extends.

The responsibility of the director is to run the ATF, not spearhead new gun laws. That's the job of the POTUS and Congress.

Well, Fast and Furious worked so well for this administration, why not add this character to the cast of fools. The right of the people...shall not be infringed.

ATF's B. Todd Jones must confront gun violence---- does that mean he'll leave us law abiding citizens alone? And only pursue the inner city thugs?

I'm sorry Cjohnston, you are only partially correct. It is not even the "job" of Congress nor of POTUS to spearhead new gun laws. Their job, along with the ATF director, is to protect and defend the Constitution, the 2nd Amendment included!

Really? It's not 'gun-violence' that is the problem, it's CRIMINALS using illegal guns that is the problem. Jones was a failure here as US Attorney here in Minnesota. He basically refused to federally prosecute the dirt bag criminals committing crimes with illegal guns HERE. Don't expect anything different from the ATF now, except Jones following Obama's gun-hating, anti-Second Amendment playbook to attack the law-abiding with more useless gun restrictions.
