Cheers to Mayo Clinic and all other companies who now declare that since gay marriage is legal, couple must now be married in order to extend benefits to partners. That's called "equality".

While applauding Mayo for this policy. This is an example of a reason why legislators and the Governor should have passed legislation that would have removed government entirely from the relationship business. The government is adding no value by registering as married. People can now legitimately say, this is "discrimination" to force a couple to marry in order to receive benefits when people prior to this legislation were living together, having children together and in many cases, sharing benefits. Marriage should have been relegated to strictly a religious ceremony by legitimate religious institutions and couples wishing to have a relationship should solicit the services of an attorney to draft a legal framework for their relationship. Such a measure would have ensured "absolute" equality.

It's ironic, some of the anti marriage equality folks are gloating over the demise of "domestic partner" benefits. I finally agree with them. I'm a gay man with a 31 year-long partnership. My partner is on my insurance, and I pay the extra taxes that straight couples don't have to pay. Now my company will phase it out. I couldn't be happier. After our ceremony, I won't have to pay tax and we are like everyone else. Yes, Amen, we are equal now!
