WASHINGTON — The Senate voted in dramatic fashion Wednesday to approve one of President Barack Obama's nominees. For Democrats to prevail, all it took was a last-ditch vote switch by one senator, a flight back from North Dakota by another and an afternoon roll call that stretched into the evening.

Why a "showdown"? It seems like a normal sort of proceedure. Individuals who have a history of support for illigitimate laws, or failure to prosecute real crimes, need not apply.

Let's face it, we all know why the Republicans oppose this guy. Same reason they hate Holder and Obama. Republicans just have a hard time with the idea that all people are created equal. If you doubt that just look at the people in the Obama administration who they hate the most. All of them wouldn't have been able to drink from the same fountain as a Republican 60 years ago and it still annoys Republicans that they can now.

"Let's face it, we all know why the Republicans oppose this guy. Same reason they hate Holder and Obama." - Because they don't appreciate peole who incite insurrection and race hatred, those who behave as if the constituton doesn't mean them, or just guys who wear suits well? I don't think thats right. Republicans don't seem to agree on even this basic level of the obvious.

@stpaulisbest - I am no fan of George W Bush, but he did choose the first black Secretary of State, first black Secretary of Defense, and first black female NSA director ever - three of the most powerful cabinet positions. I could be wrong, but I think his last AG was the first hispanic to ever hold that postion too. And I believe that 60 years ago the Democrats from the were fighting to keep separate but equal laws. But don't let facts get in the way - powerful argument stpaulisbest.

Do Republican's do anything besides obstruct progress? The last 5 years have been beyond shameful for Bohner, Can'tor and McConnel. How can anyone put these guys back in office?

conchfritter, you had to dig deep to find some examples of the conservative exception. You are correct, they do exist. But, there is a difference between a token and a ticket.
