"Lew signaled that the administration isn’t willing to negotiate."...Nobody is surprised by obama's whining anymore. Congress should just fund everything except obamacare and when the pres. vetoes it and shuts down the gov't., he'll have no one to blame but himself.

drfrankt: you need to read the last paragraph too... this is partisan, and because republicans load this up with poison pills, and Obama doesn't sign it, you act like you are going to fool the American people. Keep working against the government and holding it hostage and look where it got you, and where it is heading.

This is a manufactured issue - it's like refusing to pay your credit card bill for things you've already used. It can only hurt the economy and the country. Nonetheless, we see a few partisans attempt to fool the ignorant into thinking this is a fight that makes sense. I think it's treason.

This was the Republicans tactic in 1995, too. The public wasn't fooled - they blamed the GOP then and they will blame them now. Saying "give us what we want or we'll damage the economy" isn't going to be seen as reasonable.

While it's not easy these days to predict what the GOP will do on any given day, it is reasonable to predict that Republicans will not shut down the government. Simply because they have only 17 House seats between them and Nancy Pelosi returning as Speaker after the 2014 midterms. Turning off gramma's Social Security and grampa's Medicare and closing the Grand Canyon would make it a lot easier for Democrats to regain control of the House.

Kendon6430 - Normally, I'd agree with you. But, I've decided I'll put no further limits on what the GOP might be willing to sacrifice in the name of ideology. It's remarkable how the former "masters of message" have become consumed by the message they've sent.

"A number of congressional Republicans want to impose conditions for raising the government’s $16.7 trillion debt limit. Some have insisted on deeper spending cuts, while others want concessions from the president on other policy issues."...Please proceed, GOP.

Never in our entire US history has a congress threatened to make the country go into default - until 2011. It's unprecedented and contemptible - and now the anarchists in the making are at it again. This is utter insanity and tantrum-throwing. I personally believe that the right wing is terrified that ACA will work - otherwise why the multi-millions pouring into a national misinformation campaign to sabotage it?? If they're that certain it'll fail, why not just step aside and let it happen? Regardless, they're threatening to hold the whole country, and indirectly the world, hostage again. It's unconscionable and destructive.

""A number of congressional Republicans want to impose conditions for raising the government’s $16.7 trillion debt limit. Some have insisted on deeper spending cuts,"............................Sequestration is damaging critical programs across the country already. Adding even further cuts will unravel the safety net for our most vulnerable. What most of you probably aren't even aware of is the the GOP's demands not only include repealing ACA, but dismantling Social Security. All three are the law of the land, and these fascists threaten to hold the whole country hostage if they can't get their way. There's never been a more destructive force in our history - including terrorists.

" Congress should just fund everything except obamacare and when the pres. vetoes it and shuts down the gov't., he'll have no one to blame but himself."........................You couldn't be more wrong! If the right wing succeeds in shutting down the government of putting the country into default - which would instantly destabilize all the world markets - it will be a very swift end to the GOP. The last person who'd be blamed for the most destructive Congress in history is our president.
