Instead, five cities will feature laptops, tablets and license-swiping readers at their municipal elections this fall as a test of new voting technology — without photo identification as part of the pilot project. - So, license swiping technology will just be on display? Please explain. We will have it but won't use it? Please explain. Laptops and tablets we wont use? Please explain. Nothing to see here, move on.

Yes, this is a step in the right direction but will be very expensive in the long run. You could take it a step further and leverage big data to verify through many social media and other channels. Photo ID is a simple and inexpensive solution that should have been implemented. The whole "voter suppression" conspiracy theory is a bunch of baloney. A common sense solution should be sought. Let's get a more progressive replacement for Ritchie and we might see some progress.

(The whole "voter suppression" conspiracy theory is a bunch of baloney.)...because the GOP was voted out of office. I was born here. Whether or not I have an ID is irrelevant. It is my right to vote.

Why do they still even have in person voting in Minnesota??? They should just close all of the poling places and go to all mail voting like Washington and Oregon have done.

A very simple solution is that everyone has a retinal scan. This would satisfy the republicans because only those who can vote legally can, and Democrats would be satisfied because you wouldn't have to have an ID that some can't afford. It could be done for those with a drivers license when they renew, and for those that don't, they can go into a DMV station and have it done. Since voter ID is a republican idea for a solution with no problem, we can let the state republican party pay for the retinal scans.
