Minnetrista adopts $500 homeowner's fee when fire trucks are needed

Owners will pay $500 for emergency fire calls to their homes, but not for false alarms.

I thought this is what we pay taxes for? What did you spend the tax money on then? Will you stop collecting taxes... and just go to this new fee model instead? Or are you just going to double dip?

Generally citizens don't like this because of the reason just stated....taxes are already supposed to pay for this service. If insurance policies get tapped to pay for the service fee, then insurance premiums for everybody will eventually reflect that. This article didn't note the many communities that either passed this provision and then repealed it (the Anoka County community of Nowthen is an example) or that debated it and didn't end up passing it (like South St. Paul did last year). These fees may seem like a short term fix that is painless but it in reality is just another tax increase, but doing so in a way that doesn't draw as much upfront opposition because almost nobody notices it, since the 'tax increase' gets hidden in your homeowners' insurance premium.

Let her burn, put the $500 towards your deductible if u have cheapskate insurance.
