People today don't realize what we lost when the American Chestnut died off. The Chestnut was a dominate tree that grew fast, produced wide boards that looked a bit similar to Oak and were reddish colored and rot resistant. It had a beautiful form and prduced large quantities of edible nuts. It was the one tree that provided all we needed from trees. That is why there has been such and effort to revive it.
