Chris Froome effectively wins Tour de France ahead of largely ceremonial final stage

ANNECY-SEMNOZ, France — Chris Froome has effectively wrapped up a Tour de France victory, putting himself in position to become Britain's second successive champion after Bradley Wiggins.

It seems they always call the last day ceremonial, but if I recall correctly Greg Lemond won one of his Tours by catching up with the leader on the last day. Anyone else recall that?

sibley61. You are correct. That year they had an individual time trial the last day of the race, something they will never do again after Lemond beat a Frenchman, Laurent Fignon on that last day.
