Chipmaker TSMC 2Q profit rises 24 percent despite slowing growth in high-end smartphones

TAIPEI, Taiwan — Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., the world's largest contract chip manufacturer, reported a 24 percent jump in second quarter profit Thursday, driven by sales growth in smartphones and tablet computers that it warned is likely to fade in coming quarters.
