Ouch. This is a build cost of $1,000 for every household in the 7 county metro. This light rail route make absolutely no sense on so many levels.

Wow! I need to take a break and get a drink from one of those $50,000 decorative drinking fountains while I digest this new data. Good thing these liberal green pipe dreams are so cost effective or people may begin to question the logic.

"The Cedar Lake Trail alongside a current freight train track that has been a proposal sight for the Southwest Corridor light rail line in St. Louis Park, Minn. on Wednesday, July 10, 2013." -from photo caption. Dear Editor: The Cedar Lake Trail is a "proposed site" for the SW Corridor, not a proposal sight. Do better.

You mean the cost increases?? The price of the fare will still be waaay under cost as a loss leader for subsidized public transportation.

Where are the financial projects that illustrate the dollars spent and will be spent on an ongoing basis against various revenue scenarios? We are constantly provided with vague unquantified benefits that are heavily weighted with enhanced quality of life statements without hard numbers. There have been enough light rail projects around the country studied that should be used to validate the undisclosed assumptions that support this type of spending. We need a higher standard of accountability for spending tax payer money. I would challenge anyone to refute the writings of Randall O'Toole of the CATO institute who has studied the economic benefits of light rail. I like riding trains as much as the next guy but not if it is a billion dollar plus money pit.

If these liberal democrats keep winning elections we will be glad to have light rail available since no one will be able to afford an automobile :)

Due it right. Bury the lines. Consider building another line first? Goal is having a class act multimodal network. No rules this has to be the next line.

Just maybe if we didn't have to build the gold standard every time we build something here in Minnesota to make up for our deflated egos we could build something that is both functional and cost effective. We are not NYC, Dallas, Chicago or LA but we sure do like spending like them.

$1B dollars. $2B dollars. Whew. Spend some of that money on roads.

I know what you mean. It's kind of like the Stillwater bridge to nowhere.
