West Academic to move to downtown St. Paul

The small publisher was drawn to downtown by transit and amenities and stands to win an incentive city loan.

Great news! I hope they stay! Let's make the new contract with them be less of a gold mine for them like last time. We gave them tax subsidies (maybe all), gave them all sorts of breaks with NO payback if they moved within a certain time frame. They took what they could and when it was time to start paying, they left. I could be wrong but that's how I remember it was.

This is just another reason who governmental entities should STOP giving tax breaks to companies based on often unrealized promises of jobs and permanence. States and localities all over the country continue to fall for this. Better they lower taxes across the board than giving special breaks for a chosen few.
