Joe Mauer had the best seat in the house — and a hand in the result — as AL pitching dominated.

I could probably stomach it more that 8 former Twins were in the All Star game from other teams if the current team was not horse bleep..If the team was decent and competitive, one would say the recent trades and moves were ok.. However, the fact that this team stinks indicates the front office has or had no clue as to personnel and management decisions in the past..And that is the real shame..The incompetence and the frugality of current ownership is tough to handle.. particularly for once life long Twins fans..

It was a great moment when Mariano Rivera took the mound. The folks at Fox Sports were smart enough not to go to a commercial until the ovation had ended.... Rivera is all class, and the players on both sides showed a lot of class too.

So the game counts, but the mvp is a lifetime achievement award? I have a feeling he would have gotten the MVP if the AL lost. Call it classy if you want, but he got treated the right way by Leyland, and got a well deserved ovation, and respect from his peers. He was not the MVP of this game.

This game is worth something. Now, maybe the NBA (All Star fiasco) and NFL (pro bowl yawner) can learn something from MLB.....

Wouldn't Joe like to have pitching half as good to catch with the Twins?

Joe takes up way too much salary for the Twins to afford any pitching.

Joe helps shut down the NL? His claim to fame is that he got to first base (on an fielding error) and nearly threw out a runner with a pretty good throw? What's next La Velle, give him a trophy for eating a ham sandwich? This is getting so sad.

Mauer is not worth his 23+ million. He is only a singles/doubles hitter, that scores less than the majority of players and has even less RBI, has warning track power, etc. I watch a lot of singles/doubles hitters play and they receive alot less, and even score more runs and drive in more. He has troubles with runners, and if his game calling is so good why are his pitchers so bad. After all it was his pitch calls that held the NL at bay last night.

Watched some of the game last night and, to my surprise, enjoyed it. The Rivera situation was pretty cool. Not sure I agree with downsideup. Who else deserved the MVP award? No one really stood out. And, guth54, it wasn't an error and not just because the scorer said so. Get over it.

The NBA and NHL could adopt the same incentive as MLB with the winning conference getting home court/ice in the finals but the NFL cannot. It's the only sport that has its "all star" game at the end of the season as opposed to midseason. Leave the Pro Bowl as it once was...after the Super Bowl and in Honolulu. It may anything but entertaining but it's better than canceling it all together.
