Possibly my favorite Viking of all time. Certainly one of the most colorful. He looks like he could suit up today. "Big dog in the hoooouzzzz"!!!!

That brought back great memories. Imagine Randle lined up next to Jared Allen and both of them wearning mics. Now that would be entertainment.

notice he can walk the course...that's because he knew when to leave...getting out is the best timing of all...know when to quit..well as long as you can walk...it's time to go...

In my view, one of the all time great linemen. The drive to compete made him what he is no matter what he does. Hear that, current NFL players?

At my place of employment in Plymouth, I once had the opportunity to meet John Randle. I said, "You wouldn't happen to be John Randle, would you?" "Who wants to know?" he replied. "Wahl," sez I, "I'm told that he drops in here from time to time, and if you're him I'd like to say that whereas I'm a life-long Packers fan, I always admired John Randle." "Well," sez he, "if I was you, I wouldn't be going around talkin' about John Randle. And I wouldn't be tellin' folks I was a Packers fan. But yeah--that's me." He hands me a giant paw and we shake.

Outstanding story Jim. You see his passion for not only golf but life. Loved him as a player and seems like a really good guy.

A very entertaining piece, it really captures my perception of Johnny R.. Souhan must have borrowed Sid Hartman's tape recorder, wrote four sentences and then transcribed the rest. The whole thing is essentially a Randle-talkin'-a-mile-a-minute quote. Great column Jim and John!

Wouldn't it be fun to play in a foursome with him?

Its an absolute crime and shame to have such a great, passionate NFL football player and man like John Randle never having had a taste of the Super Bowl.
