I wonder if later retirement helps prevent Alzheimer or if it is that people become inactive and socially detached. To stay healthy in retirement you have to stay physically fit, mentally sharp and socially active. There are many things you can do beyond remaining in your job such as travel, engage in various hobbies, volunteer or even work part time. I just checked out the site retirementandgoodliving that has posts and pages on all these areas as well as many other retirement related topics. Very informative site.

One thing some of the research is pointing to is that it is the variety of activities one does that helps the brain. What's interesting is that this study was done on small business owners who typically don't have a routine day. Would this apply to someone who is in a boring routine job?

Corporate America just released another research finding this week! Working until you die at 1/2-wages makes you feel younger and you will live longer. For health purposes maybe they can get that pay cut mandated by the Obama Admininstration?
