Motorcycle racer from Florida dies after hitting 285 mph on runway in Maine

LIMESTONE, Maine — A motorcycle racer trying to top 300 mph died Sunday after losing control and zooming off a runway at a former air base in northern Maine.

Some other thoughts on the design. Doesn't the lower front part of the cowling, above and behind the wheel look like the wind would try to lift the front at 300 mph? Why isn't the front wheel enclosed to reduce drag? Ditto for his legs- it's not like he's gonna put a foot down at 300 mph. Rivets on the windshield and side? Seamless joints would also have less drag. I just feel that there may have been a little too much daredevil and a not enough engineering and wind tunnel work. Bill G.

My 1st post didn't make it. Doesn't the side view of the bike look like the cross-section of a wing? Is it possible that at 285 mph he got enough lift to destabilize the bike? Bill G.
