They should rent this facility (that the state paid half) to the Vikings so we don't build another redundant stadium.

What a joke this school has become.

guth54Jul. 14, 13 9:09 AM

The bad news is they sold beer.

Seriously? If you have a facility that can generate revenue when it is otherwise unused - and you have a problem with that?? It would be irresponsible NOT to.

Why no mention of DCI Minnesota, a drum and bugle corps competition that attracted over 2,000 competitors and 6,000 spectators that was held yesterday at TCF Bank Stadium?

The U of MN Arboretum hosts hundreds of weddings a year. Did I forget to mention U of MN in my last sentence.

huggybear28Jul. 14, 1310:52 AM

The sad news is they lost money selling beer.

nmhoodJul. 14, 1311:02 AM

I'm very happy they are putting TCF Bank Stadium to use in the off-season. However, weddings should not be viewed as "events" from the perspective of generating revenue to cost operating costs.

guth54Jul. 14, 1311:21 AM

Weddings, band competition, meetings...big deal! The HHH Metrodome hosted roller blading, dog walking, jogging and RC airplane flying! $450k (minus expenses) annually is a fractional contribution to the $303mm construction cost along with the annual operating/maintenance expenses. How come the Strib story doesn't include the UofM's expenses to rent out the stadium for these events? This is a half story! When the truth is told, this will be just like the football beer fiasco.

Really!, a commenter named “lowertaxes” is complaining when the U finds a way to creatively raise funds in the private sector. What will your complaint be when the University discovers a cure for cancer?
