It’s summertime, and the sippin’ is easy. Light and lively rules the roost in our all-too-brief respite from winter.

Bill how do you list off all those wines and not mention any German Rieslings.

Tim: I LOVE German rieslings. But these were all under-$20 recommendations, and there are very few in my experience that are under $20 and worth citing. Even the basic Donnhoff Nahe is now $22. I probably should have included some, maybe Clean Slate and Kabinetts from Dartang and Ayler Kupp. I was throwing a LOT of categories at people and didn't include several other options. But I am overdue to write a whole column on riesling, and have been planning on doing so when the ballyhooed 2012 vintage arrives.

One of my favorite whites for imbibing on the patio on a hot afternoon is the Pine Ridge Chenin Blanc/Viognier. Just delicious. Also, a dry chenin blanc from Dry Creek is a great option from the usual pinot grigio/gris.

Vino Verde is a great summer wine, and I could spend several summers tasting my way through just one summer's offering of Rose' from Solo Vino!

Bill, Just look at the new flyer from Surdyk's and you will find a ton of Rieslings under $20. Donnhoff is I believe around $16.
