looks good but we need more high density residential land or high density mixed use downtown. 300 or so apartments won't add much.

How are they pressing ahead with this without knowing if they'll be allowed to block off those two thru streets that currently run through the proposed park?

Blocking off Portland and Park will create a traffic nightmare for drivers and ambulances trying to get to HCMC. Likely solution ... a $1 billion 'Minne-Dig' paid for by ... you guessed it, the Mpls taxpayers.

johnbaranick is right. This is DOA unless Hennepin County decides to close those streets, which they won't.

Huh. Who knew the city had 65 million dollars plus interest allotted in their future budget to pay off those bonds? And there's no mention of tax increment financing? The park is a great idea, but the lack of details on the deal is appalling when the Star Tribune stands to gain 10s of millions on this sale.

But we need more high density residential land or high density mixed use downtown. - Have all the high density you like. Maybe we can move the crime back to the city instead of exporting it to the burbs. Thank you State of MN.

Will Minneapolis' newest public park allow taxpayers to bring their own beer/wine to their own pre-game picnic on the park's grounds? Portable grills and be able to use public grills and picnic tables as in all other public parks? OR, is Rybak going to use the excuse of "we have this thriving craft beer and food truck market" that will work awesome charging people $12 per beer and $20 per small meal. Is this going to be a "corporate public park" where people will not want to go there due to the forced expense? I bet it will be. Block E version 2.0. Just a bit greener is all.

Closing off Park And Portland is even stupider than closing off Nicollet avenue for K-Mart.

Minneapolis is loaning the 65 million for the ramps of which the revenue will be used to pay back the loan. If for any reason it does not generate enough revenue Ryan Co is agreeing to pay the money back....so it is not going to burden the tax payers. Of course the park will cost money to landscape an maintain. However building across from a park payer higher taxes than empty parking lots so it will generate enough tax revenue to cover the costs.

Park and Portland already dead end just two blocks to the north because of the river...closing them will not have the impact some suggest. Also HCMC is on Chicago avenue so it still would have access. In fact Park and Portland are closed over 94 for bridge work right now and HCMC is operating just fine.
