YANGON, Myanmar — A man dubbed the "Godfather of Heroin" by the U.S. government and slapped with financial sanctions for allegedly helping prop up Myanmar's brutal former military junta through illegal business dealings died over the weekend.

Lintner often wrote articles about Southeast Asia for The Far Eastern Economic Review, published in Hong Kong from 1946 until it was purchased and subsequently shut down by The Wall Street Journal because the Asian WSJ could not compete with the FEER head to head.
