It's exit Setoguchi, enter an antagonist in Cooke

The signing of vilified Matt Cooke stirred the Wild fan base more than the cap-friendly trade of Devin Setoguchi to Winnipeg.

Is it me or is Fletcher just hitting the panic button? Setoguchi will probably score 25 goals now, thought he played hard last year, he at LEAST has a chance to score compared to all the other mutts. Spend all the $$$$$ on Parise and Sutor and fill the rest of the roster on a bunch of schleps.

This I wrong on so many levels....we don't need that kind of crap here. Fletcher needs to go...he's trying to make us into the Pens of the Midwest. The eastern conference sucks, a real manager would know that, bring on pierre McGuire.

YES! As a huge Penguins fan I say, "thank you SO much!" No player in the league takes more dumb penalties at crucial times. Matt Cooke is the epitome of selfish goons, and he has caused retaliation injuries to many of his teammates in Pittsburgh. ADIOS, Cookie!!!

Does anyone know how we have addressed the lack of scoring issue? Cullen, Seto, Bouch, clutter out and in? We may have just gone from a 2.1 goal per game to 1.9?

I'd worry about your goaltending and defensive issues so-called " huge Penguins fan"

Let's see what he can do.

If you had watched the playoffs TGar, you'd realize Pens problem was scoring. And TGar should worry about zero Stanley Cups in the "State of Hockey" while the Pens have three in the trophy case :)

Answer this, naysayers: Why would the Penguins, who've been one of the best teams in the league for over 5 years, keep such a horrible player on their team for almost all of those years? Maybe because they guy's a great penalty killer. Maybe he scores goals. Fans loved Clutterbuck well Cooke is the king of that role. Yeah, he has a past, can't argue there but the guy said a couple years ago that he's cleaning up his act and he has while still being an effective player. Does anyone actually watch Penguin games? mnnumber1 claims he's a fan while giving a complete ignorant description of Cooke. I don't know. A team like Pittsburgh just doesn't keep a "selfish goon" on their team for 5 years and play him for more than 5 minutes a game.

Not a big fan of this move. I don't think it addresses the main issues here. Getting tougher is fine, but Cooke is just a flat out dirty player and just because he is in a Wild uniform, not going to become a fan of his antics. Unlike many on these boards, I think Fletcher has done fairly well within the confines of a terrible cap situation this season. My guess here is he is counting on the young players to advance, step up, and be quality performers. Bottom line for the Cooke signing to make sense along with the trade of Setoguchi, you need Zucker, Granlund, and Coyle to perform as competent top six forwards this season.

$7.5 3 year deal for a goon, and they gave away Seto (a potential scorer) to the Jets for a 2nd round pick. I see a very boring upcoming Wild season. I wont be wasting my money on tickets this year.
