This is an excellent commentary. Nelson Mandela was indeed an extraordinary man and leader. One thing about his story that is sadly somewhat unusual is the fact that he was never assassinated, like so many other similar leaders. It's a mystery why people who make an appeal to the better angels of our nature so often evoke such violent hatred. On the other hand, politicians who appeal to greed, fear, and self-interest rarely evoke such a reaction. This just seems opposite of common sense.
